The Vision Clear
Child’s eyes to see, child’s ears to hear –
God grant to me that vision clear.
Grant me the sight of heaven and earth –
Quiet rest at night, day’s glorious mirth.
Help me to hear those little things,
Faint, far and clear, rememberings.
So I may learn fully to praise
Thee for my life of happy days.
J M Westrup
All I need to know I learned from Noah's Ark
One. Don't miss the boat.
Two. Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
Four. Stay fit. When you're 600 years old someone may ask you to do something big.
Five. Don't listen to critics, just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Six. Build your future on high ground.
Seven. For safety's sake travel in pairs.
Eight. Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine. When you're stressed, float awhile.
Ten. Remember the Ark was built by amateurs, the Titanic by professionals.

Sunday Groaner
A man fell off a cliff but managed to grab hold of a branch on his way down. He hung there and shouted to the top, “Is anybody up there?”
“Yes,” came the reply. “God is up here!”
“Can you help me, God?”
”Yes.”
“What do you want me to do?”
“Let go of the branch.”
There was an agonizing pause. “Is there anybody else up there?”
Smile!
A little girl walked daily to and from school. Though the weather one morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek down the lane. As the day progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl was worried that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school, and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.
Following the roar of the thunder, lightning would cut through the sky like a flaming sword. Being concerned, the mother got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school. Soon she saw her
daughter walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look and smile. One followed
another, each with the little girl stopping, looking at the streak of light and smiling. Finally, the mother called her over to the car and asked, "What are you doing?" The child answered, "God keeps taking pictures of me."
Poem to an adopted child
Not flesh of my flesh
Nor bone of my bone
But still totally my own.
Never forget
For a single minute
You didn’t grow under my heart
But in it.
Anon.
A waking prayer
Living Lord, you have watched over me, and put your hand on my head, during the long, dark hours of night.
Your holy angels have protected me from all harm and pain. To you, Lord, I owe life itself. Continue to watch over me and bless me during the hours of day.

Dedicating the ‘wild waves’ of 2007 to God - a Pilgrim’s Plea
Shall I abandon, O King of mysteries, the soft comforts of home? Shall I turn my back on my native land, and my face towards the sea?
Shall I put myself wholly at your mercy, without silver, without a horse, without fame and honour?
Shall I throw myself wholly on you, without sword and shield, without food and drink, without a bed to lie on?
Shall I saw farewell to my beautiful land, placing myself under your yoke?
Shall I pour out my heart to you, confessing my manifold sins and begging forgiveness, tears streaming down my cheeks?
Shall I leave the prints of my knees on the sandy beach, a record of my final prayer in my native land?
Shall I then suffer every kind of wound that the sea can inflict?
Shall I take my tiny coracle across the wide sparkling ocean? O King of the glorious heaven, shall I go of my own choice upon the sea?
O Christ, will you help me on the wild waves?
Attributed to Brendan, an early celtic saint

A Happy New Year to you!

As I write this I am trying to look backwards and forwards at the same time as Christmas is still more than a week ahead and you may not receive this until Christmas has actually arrived. So I hope that you will have / are having / had a very happy Christmas!

What are your hopes and fears for the year 2007? What was there about the year 2006 for which you are thankful? Or are you just thankful that that year has come to an end?

Inevitably, we all find ourselves stopping and thinking as one year ends and another begins. You may look forward to it as a year in which you hope for some wonderful events and achievements – or you may wonder how you are going to get through it. The answer to living a happy and fulfilling year is to resolve that every step of your journey through the year will be one in which you will at least try to walk with God and seek his way. If you try to do that, then whether your walk is hard or easy, you can be assured that his love and support will be with you all the way. Sometimes that may be hard to see, sometimes his support and help will be like a beacon or a searchlight brightening your way. The problems will not disappear, you may even see them in starker relief – but you will have a Friend and Guide to help you through.

Stop at some point in each day of this year and relax in the wonder of that love of God and in thanksgiving for all his goodness.

Michael Bishop
(Rector)

Congratulations on wonderful inspection reports

We are very proud of our wonderful little church school at Long Lane. Its numbers may be small (28 pupils at the time of writing). However, what it lacks in numbers it more than fulfils in standards. According to the latest OFSTED inspection it is a good school with many outstanding features. For the report in full see:- http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/pdf/?inspectionNumber=289436&providerCategoryID=16&fileName=school112\\s5_112846_20061009.pdfSEE THE OFSTED REPORT

The Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools was even more impressive - describing the school as an outstanding Church school. This report will be accesible from the internet in the near future.
