As the rain pours down outside my window, I say to myself that it must be close to midsummer! This is the half-way point of the year when we have the opportunity of reviewing our progress as (for many) things quieten down for the summer break. Our schools are coming to the end of the school year and for some children it is the time for change – saying goodbye to primary school and looking forward to moving on to secondary education. For others it is time for leaving school and going out into the wider world. In all this change, our prayers are very much needed for the children and for their schools and teachers. We all have so much to thank our teachers for.
For me, there is further reason to be reviewing progress:- I today celebrate 35 years since my ordination as a priest – and need to ask how far I am fulfilling the hopes and prayers in my heart and on my lips all those years ago. I have much to thank God for in all those years – so much has happened to me and in the world in that time. So many things have changed and I find myself facing all sorts of things I never began to imagine at my ordination.
How is your life? How many years is it since you left school or moved into a new phase of your life. How far have you grown in your life. What have been your achievements? What new things is God calling you to today? How can you continue to grow in His service? What is there for you to learn and achieve.
As the old saying puts it, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. Pray that God will help you in the days ahead to know that whatever lies ahead you can be sure that He will be with you – stretch out your hand to Him that He may lead you into His future plans for you and all his people.
