LAW OF CAT INERTIA: A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force, such as the opening of cat food, or a nearby mouse.
LAW OF CAT THERMODYNAMICS:
Heat flows from a warmer to a cooler body, except in the case of a cat; all heat flows to the cat.
FIRST LAW OF CAT ENERGY CONSERVATION: Cats know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.
LAW OF BAG/BOX OCCUPANCY: All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within the earliest possible nanosecond.
LAW OF FURNITURE REPLACEMENT:
A cat's desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional to the cost of the furniture.
LAW OF PILL REJECTION: Any pill given to a cat has the potential energy to reach escape velocity.
LAW OF CAT COMPOSITION: A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-matter + It Doesn't Matter.
LAW OF SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM: Given enough time, a cat will land in just about any space.
LAW OF CAT OBEDIENCE: As yet undiscovered.
LAW OF LAYING THE BLAME: No matter what you've done wrong, try to make it look like the dog did it.

Today is the feast of St Mary Magdalene

It is easy to understand the popularity of Mary Magdalene over the centuries: she is the patron saint both of repentant sinners and of the contemplative life.
Jesus drove seven demons from Mary, who came from near Tiberias in Galilee. She became his follower to the bitter end. She followed him to Jerusalem and was present during the crucifixion, standing heart-broken at the foot of the cross. Her love for Jesus did not end there, for she went to the tomb to anoint his body on the Sunday morning.
Such faithful, humble devotion was richly repaid: it gave her a unique privilege among all mankind: she was the first person to whom the Risen Lord appeared on Easter Sunday morning. She thought He was the gardener at first.
Mary Magdalen has sometimes been identified with the woman who anointed Christ’s feet in the house of Simon (Lk 7.37). Over the centuries many artists have painted this scene. Mary Magdalene’s feast has been kept in the West since the 8th century. England has 187 ancient churches dedicated to her, as well as a College in both Oxford and Cambridge.
Jesus loves me this I know
Here is a new version of an old favourite. It is for those of us who have white hair, or no hair at all.
Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow.
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in him.
YES, JESUS LOVES ME... YES, JESUS LOVES ME...
YES, JESUS LOVES ME - THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.

Though I am no longer young,
I have much which he's begun.
Let me serve Christ with a smile,
Go with others the extra mile.

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart he puts a song.
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."

When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand his love

Practise makes perfect
A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a bed-time story. From time to time, she reached up to touch his wrinkled cheek. Then she would stroke her own cheek. Finally she interrupted: "Grand-dad, did God make you?"
"Yes, dear," he answered, "God made me a long time ago."
"Oh," she paused, "Grand-dad, did God make me too?"
"Yes, indeed, dear," he said, "God made you just a little while ago."
Feeling their respective faces again, she observed, "God's getting better at it, isn't he ?"

Seagull
A father was at the beach with his children when the four-year-old son ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore where a seagull lay dead in the sand. "Daddy, what happened to him?"
"He died and went to heaven," the father replied.
The boy thought a moment and then asked: "Why did God throw him back down?"

As the rain pours down outside my window, I say to myself that it must be close to midsummer! This is the half-way point of the year when we have the opportunity of reviewing our progress as (for many) things quieten down for the summer break. Our schools are coming to the end of the school year and for some children it is the time for change – saying goodbye to primary school and looking forward to moving on to secondary education. For others it is time for leaving school and going out into the wider world. In all this change, our prayers are very much needed for the children and for their schools and teachers. We all have so much to thank our teachers for.

For me, there is further reason to be reviewing progress:- I today celebrate 35 years since my ordination as a priest – and need to ask how far I am fulfilling the hopes and prayers in my heart and on my lips all those years ago. I have much to thank God for in all those years – so much has happened to me and in the world in that time. So many things have changed and I find myself facing all sorts of things I never began to imagine at my ordination.

How is your life? How many years is it since you left school or moved into a new phase of your life. How far have you grown in your life. What have been your achievements? What new things is God calling you to today? How can you continue to grow in His service? What is there for you to learn and achieve.

As the old saying puts it, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. Pray that God will help you in the days ahead to know that whatever lies ahead you can be sure that He will be with you – stretch out your hand to Him that He may lead you into His future plans for you and all his people.
