Sunday Groaner
Little Jimmy, aged four, was looking at a picture book. When he came to a picture of a zebra, his mother
asked him what animal that might be. Jimmy thought for a moment and then replied: “That’s a horse who
has eaten genetically modified corn.”Where babies come from
For weeks a six-year old lad kept telling his teacher about the baby brother or sister that was expected at his
house. Then one day the mother allowed the boy to feel the movements of the unborn child. The six-year
old was obviously impressed, but made no comment. Furthermore, he stopped telling his teacher about the
impending event.
The teacher finally took the little boy aside one day, and asked: "James, whatever has become of that baby
brother or sister you were expecting at home?" James burst into tears and confessed, "I think Mummy ate it!"

I’ll sing to that…
There was a church where the new minister and the organist were not getting along. As time went by this began to spill over into the worship service.
One week the minister preached on commitment and how we all should dedicate ourselves to the service of God. The organist played: ‘We Shall not be Moved’.
The next week the minister preached on tithing and how we all should gladly give to the work of the Lord.
The organist responded with: ‘Jesus Paid it All’.
The third week the minister preached on gossiping and how we should all watch our tongues. The organist played all verses of : ‘I Love to Tell the Story’.
By now the minister had become very discouraged with the situation, and the following Sunday told his congregation that he was considering resigning. The organist closed the service with: ‘O Why Not Tonight?’
As it came to pass, the minister did indeed resign. The following Sunday he informed the church that it was Jesus who had led him there and it was Jesus who was taking him away. The organist then outdid himself
with: ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus.’

For 40 days he drove the Ark

Make-over mistake
A woman named Shirley was from Beverly Hills. One day, she had a heart attack and was rushed to hospital.
While on the operating table, she had a near-death experience. She saw God and asked, "Is this it?" God said,
"No, you have another 30 to 40 years to live."
Upon her recovery, she decided to stay in the hospital and have collagen shots, cheek implants, a face lift,
liposuction and breast augmentation. She even had someone dye her hair. She figured since she had another
30 to 40 years, she might as well make the most of it. She walked out of the hospital lobby after the last
operation and was killed by an ambulance speeding up to the hospital. She arrived in front of God and said,
"I thought you said I had another 30 to 40 years?"
God replied, "Shirley?! I didn't recognize you!"

This is the time of year when I find myself feeling that I need eyes in the back of my head! I am writing this a week before Christmas Eve, but you will be reading it either just before Christmas or even in the new year. May I therefore take this opportunity of wishing you a Happy Christmas when it comes or as you celebrate it – and a Happy New Year when that comes (or belated wishes if it has already arrived).

In many ways we all live in between times – as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, and think of the Babe of Bethlehem, we cannot separate that from the fact that the Babe did not remain a Babe – He grew to be the greatest Teacher who ever lived, the great Healer, the Saviour who died on the cross for our sins – and the Lord who rose again from the dead to be with us always – and the One who will come to be our Judge. The joy of Christmas is tinged with sadness at the sin which caused His suffering and death – but yet the great message is of the overwhelming and all-pervading love of God. Whatever good or ill we might face, we can always be confident that nothing can separate us from that love.

We can look forward to the new year in confidence that whatever may come the living Lord will go with us every step of our way.

May God's blessings be poured upon you every day of this new year.
