New regulations come into force this year with regard to the election of Churchwardens. The rule is now that the maximum  continuous term of service for a churchwarden is six years unless a special meeting of parishioners has agreed to resolve that this rule should not apply in their parish. As a number of our churchwardens have served for at least 6 successive terms of office, special meetings of parishioners will be held to consider such motions after Sunday service on dates indicated on notices in each church. The meetings will be brief ones and any parishioner is eligible to attend and vote and is encouraged to do so. The annual vestry meetings and Annual Parochial Church Meetings will be held separately as indicated in notices to be posted in church.

Miscellaneous observations on life
As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home everyday.
Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.
The most important things in your house are the people.
When you get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants you to be still so HE can untangle the knot.A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.
He who dies with the most toys is still dead.
Faith is the ability to not panic.
If you worry, you didn't pray. If you prayed, don't worry.
God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.
Dear God: I have a problem. It's me.
Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted.
Laugh every day - it's like inner jogging.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
We do not remember days but moments. Life moves too fast so enjoy your precious moments.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
Sunday Groaner
“Dear Paddy,
The Vicar here thinks very highly of your father. He’s given him a job so important that he has five hunderd men under him. He’s cutting the grass in the churchyard.”

Sunday Groaner
Why Elijah did that…
The Sunday school teacher was carefully explaining the story of Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal. She explained how Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it upon the altar. And then, Elijah commanded the people of God to fill four barrels of water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times "Now," said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord would have Elijah pour water over the bull on the altar?"
A little girl in the back of the room started waving her hand, "I know! I know!" she said, "To make the gravy!"
Church notices that didn't quite get it right:
Mrs Thomas, of this church, wishes to thank all those members who so kindly assisted in the death of her husband.
The regular Monday night choir practise of this church will be held on Tuesday night instead of Friday night.
Children are normally collected during the Offertory Hymn.
The talk for next Friday night will be 'What is hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice.
Tuesday at 4 pm there will be an ice cream social. Ladies giving milk should come early.

What is true love?
Here are the answers that a group of four to eight year olds gave….
"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails
anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca- age 8
"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know
that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4
"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out
and smell each other." Karl - age 5
"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate." Nikka - age 6
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after
they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6
"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go
out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4
"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."
Karen - age 7
"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot.
People forget." Jessica - age 8

Sunday Groaner
Lot's wife

The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt, when little Jason interrupted, 'My Mummy looked back once, while she was driving,' he announced triumphantly, 'and she turned into a telephone pole!'
What are angels like?
Try asking school children that question, and you'll get some imaginative replies! Like these….
Angels have a lot to do and they keep very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow. Then when it gets cold, angels go south for the winter. Sara, 6
Angels live in cloud houses made by God and his son, who's a very good carpenter Jared , 8
All angels are girls because they have to wear dresses and boys didn't go for it. Antonio, 9
My angel is my grandma who died last year. She got a big head start on helping me while she was still down here on earth. Katelynn, 9
Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets. And if they don't make the animals get better, they help the kid get over it. Vicki, 8
What I don't get about angels is why, when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them. Sarah, 7

As Easter will be very early this year, February is almost entirely in Lent. Ash Wednesday is 6th February and on that day there will be Holy Communion at 10.30a.m. in Christ Church, Long lane and at 7.30p.m. in St Michael's, Church Broughton. This is the season for reassessing how we are doing in our Christian life. Do take the opportunity to stop and think about your own spiritual life. Take the opportunity to make a special effort to make time for God in what for most of us is a very busy life.
For each of us this time may need to be different. Some find it good to start and finish each day with a time of prayer and/or quiet bible study. For others the timing will need to be different. One way which I find helpful is to quietly sit and think through the day ahead or the day that is past and offer to God all the things that I do on that day, and all the people I meet. Special words are not essential – indeed sometimes we have no words to express what we want to say. At those times we can simply sit and think before God and ask him to take what is in our heart and make it into a prayer.

For some it might be helpful to go to a special place for this quiet time. Most of our parish churches are open during the day and if it helps you could go there. You would, of course be very welcome to join in he daily morning and evening prayers in our parish churches. You will see below the details of where morning and evening prayer are normally said at 7.30a.m. and 6.30p.m. respectively.

Whatever you do, do offer all that you do and all that you are before God each day. I find that it is an essential part of life and that it helps me day by day. I am sure that you would do too.

A very Holy and Happy Lent to you

Michael Bishop
